MTA plays an active role in ensuring the competitiveness of UK manufacturing through the representation of the whole machine tool and manufacturing technology sector, gathering the views of the membership to put forward to Government and other influential groups. Our Parliamentary Lobbying activities focus on promoting the importance of machine tools to manufacturing industry and ultimately, how important manufacturing is to the UK economy. Initiatives have been developed to encourage customer industries to invest in new high-technology machine tools and equipment in order to keep competitive. MTA has close contacts with the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (DBERR) and is working with them on a number of initiatives. MTA also seeks to influence the views of other Government departments that play an important role in shaping the economy including HM Treasury and the Department for Education & Skills (DfES), as well as their shadow numbers in opposition. MTA is also committed to making alliances with other like-minded groups where and when we feel it advances our opinions.
