MTA President 2006/7

Born in Birmingham and educated in the West Midlands, Geoff Lloyd joined Charles Winn (Valves) Ltd, part of the Delta Metal Group - to complete a mature apprenticeship. After a period in the USA working within the automotive industry he returned to the UK and joined Cooper Lybrand, working initially within the financial services area and then, having industrial experience, within the receivership and management consultancy wing.

He joined the Heller Group and was soon appointed Managing Director for the UK operations and based upon continued growth in the UK, encouraged the Group's decision to  build a manufacturing plant at Redditch.  During the mid- 80's he was appointed CEO and President of Heller Machine Tools Corporation USA and lived with his family in the USA for some 3 years, whilst retaining MD responsibility for Heller, UK.

On his return to Europe he became a member of Heller Group Management in Germany and was then based permanently in the UK to overview the development of horizontal machine production at Redditch.  Expansion continued and a new purpose-designed manufacturing plant was built during the mid-90’s which now manufactures Heller equipment for the world market place.

Geoff is passionate about apprentice training in manufacturing and works hard to promote the benefits of apprenticeships throughout industry and the development of young people's practical and creative skills.

Having captained his local team for a number of years, rugby remains a major interest but is quickly being matched by his love of horseracing.  He relaxes by going to the theatre and enjoys all manner of productions.  Geoff also tries to spend a holiday every year on the Scilly Isles to satisfy his fascination with horticulture.

He has served as Chairman of the Manufacturing Committee and has sat on the Executive Council as a Vice-President.  His Presidency comes at an exciting time for the Association during a period of its growth and the renewed recognition of the importance of manufacturing industry within the UK.
