Trade Credit Insurance - still a problem?

Published : December 04, 2009

Earlier in the year, in the wake of the credit crunch, the market for Trade Credit Insurance completely dried up. The MTA, along with others, pushed Government to put a solution for business in place. A scheme was duly announced in the Budget and subsequently amended in June. However, perhaps unsurprisingly, the market did not return to its pre-crunch level of buoyancy and cost stayed higher than they had been.

Trade Credit Insurance - still a problem?

We were surprised then to be told last week, by a senior BIS official, that the Government regarded the issue as ‘solved’. The official undertook to look at the Trade Credit Insurance again, if we could provide him with details of how it is still impacting on members. If you have a recent experience of Trade Credit Insurance, whether good or bad, please let Paul O’Donnell, MTA’s Head of External Affairs know about it to enable him to feed the industry's views back to Government on this issue. You can email Paul at podonnell@mta.org.uk  or ring him on 020 7298 6409.
