Education - Members
The below represents a framework which the Education and Training Committee applies to its decision making process in respect of Grants. The framework is indicative and for guidance purposes for applicants. The Committee has full discretion and its decision is final.
Funds available to members
- These can be applied for by any member.
- The MTA will match fund (50%) any application to a maximum of £500.
- Only one grant can be applied for per company in a financial year. Any additional applications will be reviewed and considered by the committee.
- Courses should not be of a duration of longer than 1 year.
- No grants will be awarded retrospectively i.e. applications funding must be made in advance of the course/training commencing.
- Applicants must have been in MTA membership for a minimum of 12 months.
- The MTA will not book places on behalf of applicants.
- In the event of cancellation, the company/individual must cancel any booking made with the training provider directly and refund any grant paid by the MTA.
The course should be an accredited or industry-reocgnised course which will satisfy a recognised need in the members business. Full terms are available on the application form.
To help us to advise other members better, please review any training and development undertaken by completing the feedback form.
Apprenticeship – Grants and Loans
In 2008, MTA launched it’s own ‘Apprenticeship scheme’ to encourage member companies to invest in Apprentice training. £100,000 was made available to support members with a turnover of less than £5million taking on a new Apprentice.
- Companies who declare a turnover of less than £5 million in respect of their MTA membership may be eligible for an Apprenticeship Grant.
- Apprenticeships must meet the national framework and be carried out by an approved provider.
- A £2,000 grant is available (£1,000 for Contract Manufacturing members).
- In addition, a £10,000 interest free loan may also be applied for. This is payable over 12 months and is repaid over the following 12 months.
- Only one grant/loan can be applied for in a financial year.
- Applicants must have been in MTA membership for a minimum of 12 months.
- The loan repayment will be due in full within 24 months from the date of the first payment to the company. Should the apprentice exit the scheme before they complete their first year scheme, or fail to pass their assessments, the company employing them will still have to repay the amount borrowed from the MTA in full, within 3 months of the termination of the apprenticeship.
