The Environmental & Technical Regulation Unit at the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills have initiated a Public Consultation Document on the draft Statutory Instrument that implements those elements of the EU Regulation on accreditation and market surveillance (RAMS - Regulation No 765/2008) that require national legislation to make them operable.
Free guide to application of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC Published : December 11, 2009
The long-awaited 337-page 1st edition official EC guide on the new directive has now been published. The document, a guide to application of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, includes comments on the Preamble, the legal provisions set out in the Articles, the essential health and safety requirements set out in Annex I and the requirements for Declarations set out in Annex II.
CECIMO Self-regulatory Initiative on Energy Using Products DirectivePublished : November 20, 2009
CECIMO has developed a new initiative aimed at making environmental improvements in the machine tool industry on a voluntary basis as an alternative to the legal implementing measures detailed in the Energy Using Products (EuP) Directive. The the concept was presented at a recent meeting in Brussels of the Energy Using Products (EuP) Consultation Forum. The forum welcomed initiatives as a promising development.
Orgalime REACH guidePublished : October 30, 2009
Orgalime has published an updated version of its guide to the REACH regulations. The new version accommodates the latest developments on the regulation. Since the previous update in May 2008, in particular REACH provisions on authorisation and restriction entered into force. Also, the Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has published further guidance documents and helping tools, and the Commission has issued additional information on REACH implementation.

BSI this week has announced implementation of the recently amended CEN standard as British Standard BS EN 12717: 2001+A1: 2009 "Safety of Machine Tools - Drilling Machines".
CE-Marking : Safety Related Parts of Control Systems - European Standard EN 954-1Published : October 02, 2009
Following on from an article two weeks ago regarding the European Standard
EN954-1 we have received further information from the European Commission on the amendments to the standard. It clarifies that the Brussels Working Group's agreement on extending the transitional period for this important standard has not yet been finalised. It is now to be decided at their next meeting, on 7/8 December.
