			<title><![CDATA[CECIMO Self-regulatory Initiative on Energy Using Products Directive]]></title>
			<description><![CDATA[CECIMO has developed a new initiative aimed at making environmental improvements in the machine tool industry on a voluntary basis as an alternative to the legal implementing measures detailed in the Energy Using Products (EuP) Directive. The the concept was presented at a recent meeting in Brussels of the Energy Using Products (EuP) Consultation Forum. The forum welcomed initiatives as a promising development.]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[Orgalime has published an updated version of its guide to the REACH regulations. The new version accommodates the latest developments on the regulation. Since the previous update in May 2008, in particular REACH provisions on authorisation and restriction entered into force. Also, the Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has published further guidance documents and helping tools, and the Commission has issued additional information on REACH implementation.]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has published on its website proposals to identify 15 additional chemicals as Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC). Interested parties are welcome to comment. The comments will be taken into account when deciding whether the substances will be added to the existing Candidate List of 15 SVHCs, which will be subject to tough authorisation requirements under the REACH regulation.]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[Orgalime has drafted an urgent proposal to the EC that certain machinery products should be allowed to be placed on the EU market after 31 Dec 2009 even though they may not fully comply with the new directive.  This follows reports from a number of companies that, in the present economic circumstances, deliveries scheduled for 2009 have been substantially postponed by the customers until 2010.]]></description>

			<title><![CDATA[REACH Regulations update – Pre-Registration finishes on the 1st December 2008]]></title>
			<description><![CDATA[Under REACH, chemical substances (on their own, in ‘preparations’ or in ‘articles’ with an intended release) that are manufactured or imported in quantities above 1 tonne per year per manufacturer/importer will have to be registered.  Failure to register a substance prohibits its manufacture, import or use in the EU.  Solvents, cleaners, acids, alkalis, oils, lubricants and metalworking fluids are all affected by the scope of REACH.]]></description>
