Attracting new blood into manufacturingPublished : December 23, 2008
Luton manufacturing technology company TRUMPF has long believed that innovation fires enthusiasm and last week it proved it. At the end of a very successful Open House event it invited sixth form students from Aylesbury Grammar School and a group of modern apprentices from Barnfield College to see its latest sheet metalworking technology. Several of the machines on show were only launched in October so there was certainly no shortage of innovation. “Our aim was not to lecture but inspire these young people,” explained TRUMPF’s Steve Ingram. “What they saw was a real eye opener to many of them.”

Cordless Shears cut up to 2.5mm ThickPublished : December 22, 2008
Two models of portable metal cutting shears from TRUMPF are the only battery operated tools of their type to be able to cut sheet up to 2.5mm thick. They are ideal for any application for which a power cable would be a hindrance. Typically they will be used in the manufacture of ventilation equipment and containers, coil processing and in the built environment. Indeed demand for a cordless shear from these sectors has prompted the development of the TruTool C250 slitting shear and the TruTool S250 shear.
More efficient slag removalPublished : December 22, 2008
TRUMPF won the German Government’s Award for Innovation with its original design of slat cleaner. This special tool allows the operators of flatbed lasers to remove slag quickly and easily from the machine’s support slats. Previously this was accomplished by chipping the slag off with a hammer, an unpleasant task that took hours. Often the build up was so great that slats had to be frequently replaced adding to process costs.
