Deburr and radius in a single pass with Timesavers

Published : January 07, 2010

As laser profiling machines develop they are producing components almost burr free. However, small burrs and sharp edges still remain, representing a risk to those handling the components and, with health and safety regulations becoming more stringent, a situation that has to be addressed.

The solution developed by Timesavers, manufacturer of the Grindingmaster range, is a deburring machine based on a rotating orbital brush concept. This new concept has been warmly received in the Netherlands, Germany, and France, where multiple machines have been installed, and is now available in the UK through sole distributor Ellesco. Existing customers of the new machine are already benefitting from the high quality finish and precise radiussing achieved, combined with minimal brush wear, from this dry deburring and radiussing system.

The concept of a rotating brush has been developed and enhanced from machines manufactured for the woodworking industry, with the new machine capable of deburring and radiussing components in a single pass. To achieve this parts from 100 mm in length and up to 1350 mm in width, are fed into the machine on a vacuum conveyer table. They then pass under a carousel with eight rotating brushes, which in turn revolve around a central axis. “By having eight brushes, users have the option of increasing productivity by feeding parts faster, or going for improved quality,” says Michael Ypes, Director, Ellesco.

The standard machine with the orbital brushes will remove a minimum amount of material, making it ideal for Zintec, aluchrome and plastic coated components, while at the same time heavy plate and oxy- or plasma-cut pieces are all given a controllable radiussed edges, including small holes in the middle of the parts. If customers specify the optional Grindingmaster abrasive belt head, positioned in front of the brushes, the machine will also remove heavy burrs or laser slag before radiussing.
