This week’s Friday Brief reports on the Members’ Quarterly Meeting entitled Managing Large Contracts held on 19 June. The event was staged at the premises of DMG Mori Seiki and was the second in the new series, attracting over 30 members.
Presentations on negotiating non-disclosure agreements were given by Steve Finn, Managing Director of DMG/Mori Seiki UK and managing large contracts more generally by Phil Sholl, Director of DVST. Both shared their experiences in defining good specifications and the pitfalls to avoid. Members were able to add their contributions during the workshop session. At key points in the meeting members were able to use interactive keypads to record their responses to different questions; 97% of delegates reported that they found the meeting effective.
This week also saw the announcement that Lord Green will be standing down as Trade Minister in December to be replaced by Ian Livingston, currently Chief Executive of BT. During his three year term Lord Green has overseen a clear improvement in the performance of UKTI and the establishment of UK Export Finance with its widened suite of products – something for which the MTA had long been calling.
We are drawing members attention to the Croner Business Support Helpline, which gives you instant access to telephone advice from a team of experts. The service is an integral part of your MTA membership. Topics covered by the Helpline include: employment and personnel, health & safety, commercial legal advice, tax and VAT.
We also have news of the annual MTA Member Golf Day which this year will be held on 26 September 2013 at the Stonebridge Golf Club. Members must enter teams of four and as only 20 teams can take part don’t delay in submitting your application form.
Have a good weekend.
