Welcome all to Friday 17th October’s Friday Brief.
This week’s edition includes an important reminder to get your application in for the 2nd Ballot for exhibition space at MACH 2016. It may seem a while away but if you want the best and most appropriate space for your business you must be in the ballot which closes on Tuesday 4th November 2014.
We also announce today a new Member’s Benefit – if you are coming to London and in need of a meeting room, the first-rate facilities at the MTA Head Office in central London are now available to members free of charge. Demand will be high, so get your booking in quick!
This week saw Scarborough Engineering Week and MAKTEK – we sent along representatives so you can find out what they thought below. MIDEST – the international show for subcontracting and maintenance in Paris, France is approaching so take a look to see if it fits into your strategies. We also have information on UKTI's upcoming Great Festival of Creativity in Hong Kong next month – the event aims to provide a dynamic celebration of British innovation, bringing together governments and businesses from across a variety of sectors.
In economic news, the Eurostat numbers on industrial output and, in particular for Capital Goods, don’t make great reading with a large fall in the sub-sector in August. However, we should not read too much into a single month, but we will be looking closely at the next couple of month’s data for signs of a recovery. The other report is from the USA; the picture here is of a market that is broadly similar to 2013, although with the effect of IMTS to come over the next month or two, we would expect some growth to appear given the buoyant reports from that exhibition. Next week is the MTA Economic Forecast and we only have a few spaces left so if you’ve not signed up yet, do it quick!
Do let us know if you have any news or stories you would like to share with MTA Members – send them over to olawson@mta.org.uk
Enjoy the sunny (fingers crossed) weekend.
