Euro Standards

The European standards organisations CEN and CENELEC have been discussing Framework Partnership Agreements (FPAs) with the European Commission under the EU Regulation 1025/2012 on European Standardisation. Once signed, the FPAs will legally formalise the public-private partnership together with a 50% co-funding agreement.
However the discussions have reached stalemate due to ‘Key Performance Indicators’ (KPIs) proposed by the European Commission which industry stakeholders believe would impact on the quality, market relevance, transparency and international dimension of European Standards.  Of major concern is the Commission’s emphasis on reducing the preparation time of standards by half.  These concerns have been expressed to the Commission in a joint letter from CEN and CENELEC, co-signed by CECIMO, ORGALIME and other leading industry organisations.
