Advanced Manufacturing is a dynamic, globalised, sector which is constantly evolving. Much of that evolution is as a consequence of technological change which is happening at a faster rate than ever before. Manufacturing Technology that change right across sectors and in companies of all sizes. The MTA exists to help its members transform the manufacturing world.

Twenty-one year old, Ben Siddall from Barnsley became the fifth apprentice to win the honour of being named ‘Apprentice of the Year’ at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) Training Centre’s annual award ceremony at the University of Sheffield’s impressive Firth Court Hall on 4 May 2018.

Wednesday saw representatives of mechanical engineering trade associations from the UK and across Europe gather in London for a summit on Brexit. They were brought together under the auspices of EURIS, an umbrella group which deals with Brexit issues on behalf of product manufacturers, of which the MTA is a member.

The MTA has been working closely with the Department for Education to provide feedback on the Apprenticeship Levy and to help improve and streamline the system going forward.  Any Levy-paying MTA members are encouraged to take part in the short remote feedback session below.

The Composite Centre at the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) has announced its unique high-pressure RTM and composite press facility is now ready to host collaborative R&D projects with interested manufacturers from the composites industry.

CBI Industrial Trends Survey, April 2018:  The latest results from the CBI Industrial Trends Survey (ITS) show a slow-down in the pace of growth of manufacturing output, although it remains well above average levels and the respondents to the survey are expecting a re-acceleration in the coming 3 months.
