The MTA and Cranfield University are teaming up again in 2017 to host the annual Surface Engineering and Applied Nanotechnology Conference. The conference will discuss a range of important technology related issues, including future strategies and opportunities in development and collaboration, for the surface engineering industry and nanotechnology companies in the UK.

Last week MTA CEO James Selka was out in India at IMTEX 2017 representing the association and the UK . IMTEX is the largest exhibition of metal-cutting machine tools and manufacturing solutions in South and South-East Asia. IMTEX 2017 showcased the exhaustive range of innovations and technological refinements in the complete product segment of metal-cutting machine tools.

In the economic news items, we report on what seems to have been a very strong end to 2016 for manufacturing in most countries, but we know that for some parts of our sector, the short month means that is often one of the weakest parts of the year.

MTA Technical Manager Richard Griffiths is set to retire at the end of the year. Richard has given 28 years of service to the Association and his technical knowledge has been invaluable to both MTA members and staff.
