The MTA and Cranfield University are teaming up again in 2017 to host the annual Surface Engineering and Applied Nanotechnology Conference. The conference will discuss a range of important technology related issues, including future strategies and opportunities in development and collaboration, for the surface engineering industry and nanotechnology companies in the UK.

The MTA Business Survey provides a valuable indicator of the health (or otherwise) of the manufacturing technology sector, but this does rely on input from our members.  The survey covering January is now open - you can access the on-line form at - and this message is both a prompt to our regular participants to let us have your figures and an encouragement to those who have not taken part b

Last week MTA CEO James Selka was out in India at IMTEX 2017 representing the association and the UK . IMTEX is the largest exhibition of metal-cutting machine tools and manufacturing solutions in South and South-East Asia. IMTEX 2017 showcased the exhaustive range of innovations and technological refinements in the complete product segment of metal-cutting machine tools.

We will be closing the December edition of the MTA Business Survey early next week and although we have had a good response, there is always room for more, so if you have not yet sent us your figures, you can find the on-line form at  We value the input of MTA members to what is a very useful and timely indicator of the trends for the manufacturing technology sector in the UK.

In the economic news items, we report on what seems to have been a very strong end to 2016 for manufacturing in most countries, but we know that for some parts of our sector, the short month means that is often one of the weakest parts of the year.

The Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA) and Cranfield University are teaming up again in 2017 to host an open conference to discuss the future of the surface engineering industry and nanotechnology companies in the UK. This event aims to discuss the related future strategies and opportunities in development and collaboration in this important field.

MTA Technical Manager Richard Griffiths is set to retire at the end of the year. Richard has given 28 years of service to the Association and his technical knowledge has been invaluable to both MTA members and staff.

The MTA is pleased to announce the launch of its brand new website.

The new MTA website now has responsive design to make it even easier to navigate, update and enjoy on mobile devices. The site contains all the latest MTA news and provides full details of all member organisations.

The MTA are looking to take a delegation to IMTEX 2017 in Bangalore, India from 26 January - 01 February 2017 and we would ask member companies if they would be interested in joining the trip.
