Outreach Activities

The MTA engages in a variety of outreach activities, to help young people realise the wide range of careers that are available to them within engineering based manufacturing.  To the left on the drop down menu is a list of the main outreach activities of the MTA - click on each one to find out what we do in more detail.

Last week saw the publication of the Government’s new Green (consultative) Paper on Industrial Strategy. Industrial Strategy has been up and down the policy agenda for nearly ten years - ever since the financial crisis led politicians to start thinking about some questions about the role of the state in the economy which had lain dormant through the years of de-industrialisation.

The MTA has been heavily involved in consultation on the upcoming Apprenticeship Levy. Our friends at the EEF are running a webinar to help you prepare to manage your Digital Apprenticeship Service (DAS) account on Thursday 19 January from 10:00 – 11:00am.  This webinar will be useful for both levy payers and those below the threshold to pay the levy, as both will need to use the new DAS for apprentice training.

The Manufacturing Institute is looking for lean champions of the future, who have shown great potential in their business but would benefit from an intensive training programme to help develop their skills and impact to their business.

The Integrated Manufacturing Group of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) with Boeing has been working with DESTACO, a leading global supplier of high-performance automation, work holding and containment fixturing solutions to help create a virtual workshop to assist with pre-production and factory planning processes.

Detailed plans for a new state-of-the-art training hub in Shropshire were unveiled for the first time yesterday, with the aim of supporting ‘2020 learners by 2020’.

More than 100 local businesses and stakeholders attended the £3m Marches Centre of Manufacturing & Technology (MCMT) launch event in Bridgnorth to find out how they can play their role in helping it reverse the region’s skills and competency gaps.

The MTA will be attending a careers fair at The Magna Carta School in Surrey on Tuesday 27 September.

Uncertainty over Brexit, changes to Government and challenges to our economy all point more than ever to the need for strong leadership in manufacturing.

The Manufacturing Institute’s MSc in Manufacturing Leadership is accredited by Lancaster University Management School – ranked in the UK’s top ten and among the world’s top 100 business schools.

The MTA is developing a new 3-5 year strategy for Learning and Development. This strategy will be developed alongside the Learning and Development Committee and the Board. To ensure we implement a strategy that our members will value and find useful, we would appreciate it if you could take the time to complete this survey.

The Government has introduced a new Apprenticeship Levy that will come into effect on 6 April 2017.  The MTA has created a presentation to provide guidance. This presentation will be updated as more information is released.

Rolls-Royce and the High Value Manufacturing Catapult launched a National Strategy in Through-life Engineering Services (TES) on 5th July in London. The National Strategy is facilitated by the Through-life Engineering Services Centre (TES Centre) hosted by Cranfield and Durham Universities.
