MTA is a member of CELIMO, the European federation for associations representing importers and distributors of machine tools, tooling and related technology.  In January 2013, to coincide with the IMTEX Metal Cutting Exhibition in Bangalore, CELIMO is organising a visit for European importers and distributors. The purpose of the mission is to establish contacts with Indian manufacturers with a view to representing them in the European market.

The 'Bloodhound' supersonic car proved to be a highlight of this year's Scarborough Engineering Week, the event aimed at encouraging youngsters to consider careers in engineering. Now in its third year, the organisers were delighted with the success of the event, which has grown substantially year on year - with some 1600 pupils attending this time.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT) has opened its  Meet the Funder event on 21 November at Cranmore Park, Solihull, West Midlands to MTA members.

The event will focus on finance in the supply chain and enabling businesses to speak to the financial community about support. This will be great opportunity to hear from key industry stakeholders, meet with a wide range of funders and also network with industry colleagues.

Last weekend saw just over 3,000 young people and their families visit the Imagineering Fair at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. The event played host to a number of companies, big and small, showcasing the future of innovative design and possibilities associated with engineering.

The European Association of the Machine Tool Industries CECIMO (www.cecimo.eu) is conducting a broad-based online survey about market opportunities in industrial services in the machine tool industry with a focus on sustainability. In recent years, industrial services have become increasingly important as a relevant competitive factor for manufacturing enterprises in the machine tool sector.

Innovation in additive manufacturing technologies, which have the potential to change the face of manufacturing across the globe, is to be boosted through £7 million of new Government investment in research and development.

European Industrial Production, August 2012:  Data from Eurostat shows that total industrial production in the euro-zone was +0.6% higher than in July and grew by +0.3% for the EU27 overall.  Compared to August 2011, industrial production fell by -2.9% in the euro-zone and by -1.8% in the EU27 overall.

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) together with UK Trade & Investment have launched Overseas Business Risk, a free and topical information service on risks related to exporting. The new service is in addition to the FCO’s recently announced Commercial Diplomacy Fund.

The conference has been assembled by five trade associations in the fields of pumps, fans, compressors, motors and controls. The event is focused on helping UK industries to make significant energy savings in their businesses.

The programme has content that features economics and finance as well as case studies and some technical detail. It is aimed at senior managers and those responsible for energy at a strategic level.

UK Trade & Investment in association with the MTA and the British Automation & Robot Association (BARA) is organising a webinar entitled “Manufacturing sector in India and Opportunities for UK companies – focusing on the competitiveness of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry”.
