Walter is one of the world's leading companies within the metalworking sector. The machining specialist offers a wide range of precision tools for milling, turning, drilling and threading. Walter works with its customers to develop tailored solutions for complete machining of components in the aviation and aerospace, and automotive and energy industries, as well as for general mechanical engineering. The company's Engineering Kompetenz spans the entire machining process. As an innovative partner capable of creating digital process solutions of optimal efficiency, Walter is pioneering Industry 4.0 throughout the machining sector. Walter employs over 3600 members of staff and, together with its numerous subsidiaries and sales partners, serves customers in over 80 different countries around the world. Walter acknowledged the importance of digitalisation, visualisation and networking some years ago and opened the Walter Technology Center in 2016. Comprising a total area of approximately 5000 square metres, the building at the company's headquarters in Tübingen, Germany combines the functions of an interactive experience centre and a research factory. This is where customers, partners and staff from all over the globe are able to collaborate on solutions for the future. This applies to materials, machining processes and digital elements in equal measure. The Technology Center simulates a smart factory in which processes and systems are digitally networked and communicate with one another in real time. An important strategic step on the way to Industry 4.0 was the creation of a joint merger with long-term software partner Comara located in Germany at the end of 2016. Walter is working with Comara to develop software solutions for intelligent networking in the industrial production environment. Research and development have been a priority for Walter since its very foundation, for instance its founder Richard Walter was the co-inventor of carbide. The invention of the first two-colour carbide indexable insert is a pioneering achievement which can be primarily attributed to Walter. Walter boasts over 200 registered patent families, within its competence brands. Walter stands for competence in turning, drilling and milling with carbide indexable inserts and PCD tools. Walter Titex represents competence in drilling with solid-carbide and HSS tools.Walter Prototyp represents competence in threading and milling with solid-carbide and HSS tools. And Walter Multiply stands for competence for more productivity and solutions for production, logistics, software solutions and training.
