BREXIT - INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RULES

At the end of the Brexit transition period on 31st December 2020 there will be changes to how the Intellectual Property (IP) system and the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) will operate.  These changes will affect:

  • Trade Marks and Designs
  • Parallel trade from the UK to the EEA
  • Unregistered Designs
  • Use of representatives and address requirements to represent clients in cases with the EU Intellectual Property Office

One area that is not changing in most cases is that of copyright because this is governed by international treaties, although some types of copyrighted activity will be affected.

You can find out more information about all of these changes in this news story from the IPO at https://www.gov.uk/government/news/intellectual-property-after-1-january-2021.
