Please be advised that a New Work Item Proposal has been loaded to the BSI Standards Development Portal for comment. We hope this will assist in increasing awareness of the Standards Development Portfolio.

Any comments received will be submitted to AMT/4 - Industrial data and manufacturing interfaces, for consideration when deciding the UK response to ISO.

Proposal: ISO/TC 184/SC 4 N 3581, ISO/NP 10303-1 Industrial automation systems and integration -- Product data representation and exchange -- Part 1: Overview and fundamental principles.

Scope

Scope of the proposed deliverable

The scope will the same as edition 2 except:

— the removal of “terms and definitions used throughout ISO 10303”, this is now in the scope of 10303-2 (draft document included for reference);

— the addition of a new part series for domain models and the core model

Purpose

The STEP architecture has been extended, and these extensions used by several parts of 10303. The extensions have been documented and balloted in a series of ISO/TC 184/SC 4 standing documents. 10303-1 edition 3 will updated to bring it in line with these standing documents.

In addition, there are issues reported against 10303-1 that were deferred to a later edition. These are listed at the end of this document.

 Standard 2

Any comments received will be submitted to AMT/4 - Industrial data and manufacturing interfaces, for consideration when deciding the UK response to ISO.

Proposal: ISO/TC 184/SC 4 N 3579, ISO/NP 8000-114 Data quality -- Part 114: Master data: Application of ISO/IEC 21778 and ISO 8000-115 to portable data.

Scope

ISO 8000-114 specifies the requirements for the formatting of characteristic data that form part of an exchange of application independent master data.

The following are within the scope of ISO 8000-114:

* the extension used to designate a file containing characteristic data formatted in accordance with this document, * the syntax of a characteristic data set,

* the character set encoding of the characteristic data,

* the semantic encoding of the characteristic data. The following are outside the scope of ISO 8000-114:

* the information contained in a master data record.

Purpose

The following points are noted in support of this part addition to the ISO 8000 series:

* Data is the physical representation of information,

* Portable data is data that can be entirely separated from the application that was used to transform information into data. Portable data preserves meaning in a way that ensures that the original information is reliably transformed into data and preserved so that it can be used by any other application,

* Portable data is required to be able to create interoperable systems,

* Portable data is required to protect intellectual property in data.
