The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy are running a consultation on how Rules of Origin will apply to the UK manufacturing sector after Brexit. Rules of Origin are the means by which it is determined which tariffs to apply to goods. Their visibility will greatly expand after Brexit because good from the UK will no longer come under the ‘EU Origin’ banner. Understanding how they effect industry is therefore very important to Government if they are to know what to prioritise in any future Trade Deals. The attached questionnaire seeks to glean some high level information and it would be useful to ensure that we have a broad representation from the sector as possible. Most manufacturing technology products are subject to relatively low tariff levels but if you company makes something that fits into a relatively small market niche it may be rated more highly and exercises like this may help to make Government aware of risks to such markets.
