The MTA was a signatory on a recent letter sent to the Secretary of State by BSI - you can download the letter below.  The letter proposed the creation of a government expert advisory group on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT).

The letter highlighted that today many challenges faced by UK businesses in exporting to overseas markets are linked to Technical Barriers to Trade, such as regulatory issues arising from the imposition of national standards, testing and certification.

The intention of a Technical Barriers to Trade advisory group would be to support officials in developing positions for Technical Barriers to Trade in trade agreements - ensuring that trade deals maintain the UK’s national regulatory interests, reduce unnecessary barriers to trade, and deliver appropriate reciprocity in the level of market access granted by agreements.
