Post graduate placement short projects: MPhil in Industrial Systems, Manufacture and Management

From time to time Cambridge University Dept of Engineering makes available post graduate students to work on short term projects. The students are studying for an MPhil in Industrial Systems, Manufacture and Management (ISMM). It is a one-year postgraduate programme designed to equip numerate graduates, primarily from Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths backgrounds, with the skills, personal development and industrial experience to be immediately effective in their early careers in industry.

Details of the programme are shown at this link: http://www.ifm.eng.cam.ac.uk/education/ismm/

On the assignments the students work in pairs and have four projects through the year.

Project types and timing this year:

  • P1: Industry Project: Industrial Systems and Manufacturing Processes – 4th December until 15th December
  • P2: Industry Project: Industrial Systems and Manufacturing Processes – 16th January until 26th January
  • P3: Entrepreneurial Project: Each Thursday for 6 weeks – 1st February until the 8th March
  • P4: Industry Project: Innovation and Strategy – 15th March until 27th March

The best projects are those the company is really keen to do and often it is something a manager has had for a time on the corner of his desk, needs to do urgently but can't quite get round to! There is not cost other than potentially covering expenses. I would link with volunteer companies and provide supervision and assessment
