In April 2017 the first cohort of military veterans successfully completed their training and started work as part of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) re: Start program (aws-restart.com).
AWS re:Start is a training and job placement programme, launched by Amazon Web Services, to educate young adults as well as military veterans, reservists, and their spouses, on the latest software development and cloud computing technologies.
Over the last few weeks AWS customers and partners including the BBC, Telegraph Media, Secure Storm and Bboxx have provided some fantastic work placements to the AWS re: Start graduates who have been using their military experience and newly acquired skills to bring new ideas to these organisations.
The second group of veterans have just begun the AWS re:Start training and will, from Monday July 3rd be looking for job placement where they can put their newly learnt skills to the test.
We’d like to ask for your support by way of offering a newly qualified AWS re:Start veteran a job placement.
As a guide, placements of 3-6 months in length are recommended, however this could also be for a longer time period if that is preferred.
If you are able to provide a job placement to support the transition of AWS re:Start graduates into your business we have partnered with Sage who are providing a Military Mentoring Programme which will:
- Provide free mentoring training to volunteers from your company in order to ensure a smooth on-boarding transition and successful placement.
- Provide ongoing support to the veterans throughout the AWS re: Start course.
- Support the provision of placements through AWS & Sage customers and partners.
Employing veterans is not only a matter of social responsibility, but it also brings solid business advantages. Most veterans possess the soft skills which are critical to the success of any company, such as leadership, communication skills, teamwork, social perceptiveness, flexibility, creative problem solving, judgement and decision making.
If you’d like to pledge a placement to the AWS re: Start program please contact the team directly at email@example.com and we will take you through the next steps. Please let us know at the MTA too.
