Standards
The MTA’s Technology Team actively and positively looks to input and shape standards which effects our members technology as well as aim to provide access to standards. We do this through our close relationship with the UK’s national standards body, the British Standards Institute (BSI). For further information on the MTA’s Standards work please contact the MTA’s Technology Lead, Sami Ortiz on sotiz@mta.org.uk.
BSI
BSI is appointed by the UK Government as the UK National Standards Body (NSB) and represents UK interest at the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the European Standards Organizations (CEN, CENELEC and ETSI). Formed in 1901, BSI was the world’s first National Standards Body.
Our role is to help improve the quality and safety of products, services and systems by enabling the creation of standards and encouraging their use. We publish over 2,700 standards annually, underpinned by a collaborative approach, engaging with industry experts, government bodies, trade associations, businesses of all sizes and consumers to develop standards that reflect good business practice.
Further information about BSI and the work they do can be found here: https://www.bsigroup.com/en-GB/.
Technical Expert Engagement and BSI Committee Coverage
The MTA Technology Team looks to directly engage and recruit member technical experts in order to get them to sit on and provide input to a variety of BSI committees. The BSI committees selected for each MTA Member Technical Expert is where we assess they can have a significant positive impact through their experience and expertise. A list of the committees covered along with a list of MTA Member Technical Experts covering that committee is provided below:

Sitting on a BSI committee provides a company with an opportunity to influence the technical guidance (i.e. design, testing, use etc) for their products, both nationally and internationally. Having this influence allows the company to have greater knowledge of the technical and commercial environment in which they operate and therefore have a greater chance of success.
If you wish to participate in standards development and see how you can get involved with BSI committees through the MTA, then please contact the MTA’s Technology Lead, Sami Ortiz, sortiz@mta.org.uk.
Standards Access
All full members of the MTA are able to access up to 100 British Standards. These are standards which are pertinent to the manufacturing technology industry and are chosen by our members. They can be accessed by logging into the BSOL system (https://bsol.bsigroup.com).
There is a one-off registration required to get access to the MTA’s standard collection. The registration process and details can be obtained by contacting the MTA’s Technology Lead, Sami Ortiz on sortiz@mta.org.uk.
The MTA’s standard collection is refreshed each year and is updated weekly, providing you the opportunity to add the latest standards. To request a specific standard on the system or if you have any issues accessing it then please get in contact.
The MTA also produce a quarterly booklet showing the latest updates to a number of pertinent standards for the manufacturing technology industry. This booklet can be found either through the MTA’s member area or can be sent to you via email – please request an email copy from the MTA’s Technology Lead, Sami Ortiz sortiz@mta.org.uk
