The Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA) and Cranfield University teamed up to host a conference on UK Industrial Surface Engineering Present and Future.
The event took place at Cranfield University’s Vincent building on 17th February 2015. Over 120 delegates joined twelve UK based surface engineering firms who exhibited at the event.
The industrial conference was chaired by Professor Jose L. Endrino, (Cranfield University) and attracted international engineers and other professionals from the supply-chain and end-users.
The conference programme was opened by Professor Sir Peter Gregson, Vice Chancellor of Cranfield University and James Selka CEO of the MTA. Mr. Selka, said of the event “It was a really fascinating day bringing together industry and academia to discuss surface engineering in the UK. Links with educational institutions are integral to the continued development of the industry and we are very pleased to bring so many of these people together in one room.”
Other speakers that participated in the event included Dr. Mark Claydon-Smith, Head of Manufacturing at funding council EPSRC and Dr. David Wright Head of Manufacturing at Innovate UK. Both discussed the roles of their respective institutions within manufacturing in the UK.
Sixteen speakers addressed the conference during an action packed day, with representatives from companies such as Rolls-Royce, Siemens and Kennametal.
