In its second flash estimate for Q3-2025, Eurostat reports quarter-on-quarter GDP growth of +0.3% for the EU and +0.2% for the euro area. Compared with the same quarter in 2024, the EU economy is estimated to have expanded by +1.6%, and the euro area by +1.5%.
Compared to the first flash estimate for Q3, published on 31 October, quarter-on-quarter growth is unchanged, but growth compared to the same quarter last year was revised upwards.
So far, 21 of the 27 member states have released Q3-2025 figures. Among these, the strongest quarterly increases were recorded in Cyprus (+0.9%), and in Poland, Portugal and Slovenia (all +0.8%). Germany, Italy and Hungary showed no growth, while Lithuania (-0.2%), Romania (-0.2%), Ireland (-0.1%) and Finland (-0.1%) posted declines. Finland has now met the definition of a technical recession, with two consecutive quarters of negative growth.
On an annual comparison (Q3-2025 vs Q3-2024), 20 of the 21 reporting member states recorded growth. The fastest increases came from Ireland (+12.3%), Poland (+3.7%), Cyprus (+3.6%) and Bulgaria (+3.2%). Finland was the only member state to show an annual contraction, at -0.9%.
