UK Manufacturing Output, February 2017:  Data on manufacturing output published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed a minimal reduction compared to January which attracted some negative headlines;  this is unfortunate as the more reliable 3-month moving trend was growth of +2.1%, with total manufacturing output in the 3 months to February running at +3.3% above the level of a year earlier.

We will be preparing the report of the March edition of the MTA Business Survey immediately after the Easter holiday and we would encourage any members who have not yet responded to do so.  The on-line form at www.mta.org.uk/mta-business-survey-mar17 (you won’t need to login to access this form) is still open.  There are already some interesting results emerging this month, so it would be good to get as many responses as possible t

Now in its fourteenth year, the search is on to find England’s top Apprenticeship employers and apprentices.

The National Apprenticeship Awards 2017 are open for entries to compete to be named ‘the best of the best’ on a regional and national level.

Factory 2050 is a flagship new facility at the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC)

The facility is designed to help manufacturing companies test new production methods and quickly change product designs on an assembly line

The £43m development was part funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the Higher Education Funding Council for England

The Spring Economic Update of the MTA Forecast for the UK Machine Tool and Cutting Tool market will soon be available and we will be holding an Economic Update briefing on Thursday 27th April.

The MTA Business Survey for March was launched at the start of this week;  this is one of our slightly longer quarterly surveys, but we hope this won’t put you off from responding.  The survey provides a valuable indicator of the health (or otherwise) of the manufacturing technology sector and with recent data from other sources showing a generally positive outlook, we are keen to maximise the response to our survey to check how this is reading across to our sector.  You can access the on-...

If your organisation has more than 250 staff, from 6 April you will be required to publish information and an explanation on the extent of your gender pay gap.  Thinking about what you will do to decrease the gender pay gap will support your organisation’s productivity levels, where everyone’s skills and talents can be maximised.

The MTA have been awarded the Mark of Excellence at the Association Excellence Awards for their work on MACH 2016. The awards took place in London on Friday 31st March 2017 and celebrated excellence in professional and trade associations.

MACH 2016 was entered into the Association Excellence Awards in the category of Best Large Association Event attended by over 1,500 people and just missed the top prize.

The Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA) teamed up with the North East Automotive Alliance (NEAA) to deliver a one-day masterclass focusing on the supply chain and automation within the UK automotive sector supply chains. The event took place on 6th April 2017 at Nissan Sport and Leisure in Sunderland.

The MTA has been working with Rough House Media to put together a training course on media handling and crisis communications.
