Following its recent General Assembly meeting, CECIMO (the group of European associations representing machine tool and AM manufacturers) has published a couple of reports – one a summary and the other with more details – on the European machine tool industry. It has also released its Economic & Statistical Toolbox for the 1st quarter of the year.
The highlights of the latest Toolbox include:
- The Total Orders Index for the CECIMO8 countries (the 8 largest of the 15 members) decreased slightly in the 1st quarter of 2025;
- The EU Industrial Production Index (IPI) increased modestly by +0.9% indicating a modest expansion in the output of EU manufacturers;
- Machine Tool Production in the 15 CECIMO countries declined by -7.6% in 2024 (compared to 2023). First estimates for 2025 point to a further contraction.
You can download the full document from the members area of the MTA website at https://www.mta.org.uk/members-area/market-intelligence/global-mt-report/ (it is the 3rd item on this page) – you will, of course, need your members login and password to access this. Alternatively, you can access most of the data on the interactive CECIMO Dashboard which can be linked to via our the members area of our website at https://www.mta.org.uk/members-area/cecimo-dashboard: it appears quite small but if you zoom in (Ctrl-key and +-key) it can be made more readable.
The other publication is the Statistical Report that was produced in conjunction with the General Assembly – highlights of this are in the Statistical Overview. You can access both of these via the Economic Reports page on the MTA website – a reminder that the link for this is https://www.mta.org.uk/members-area/market-intelligence/global-mt-report/ – where these are covered in the 4th item on this page. This has more structural information, with data on production, orders (for manufacturers rather than in the market), consumption and trade; the Statistical Report also has national activity forms for 12 of the 15 countries who are members of CECIMO – this has a little more detail than is in the report.
