The first Eurostat release of Q2 sector accounts for non-financial corporations shows that the profit share of businesses in the euro area increased from 38.4% to 39.0%, as compensation of employees (wages and employers’ social contributions) plus taxes less subsidies on production increased more slowly than gross value added (respectively +1.0% and +2.0%).

Note that this initial release covers the euro area only. The full quarterly sector accounts, including the EU as well as the euro area, will be published towards the end of this month.

The business investment rate in the euro area increased from 22.5% to 22.7% in the second quarter of 2026, as gross fixed capital formation increased faster than gross value added (respectively +2.9% and +2.0%). The peaks in Q2 2019, Q4 2019 and Q1 2020 are related to large imports of intellectual property products reflecting globalisation effects.
