Proposal: ISO/NP 22166-302 – Robotics — Modularity for service robots — Part 302: Mobility module

Comment period end date:21/01/2026

This new ISO document outlines requirements for mobility-related modules used in service robots — the software and hardware that enable a robot to move. It describes key functions, interfaces, and technical information needed to ensure these modules can work smoothly together. Although not a safety standard, it includes details that can support safety considerations.

Purpose:

The aim is to make mobility modules easier to design, integrate, and reuse across different service robots. The draft defines the essential functions these modules should have, supports better data exchange, and helps manufacturers create modules that fit real use-case needs. This work is intended to improve interoperability, encourage innovation, and support growth in the service robotics market.
