Please be advised that a New Work Item Proposal has been loaded to the BSI Standards Development Portal for comment.
Any comments received will be submitted to the national committee “AMT/10 – Robotics” for consideration when deciding the UK response to the associated Standards Development Organisation.
1. Proposal: ISO/NP 26159-1 – Robotics — Infrastructure for robot applications — Part 1: Framework
Comment period end date:17/10/2025
Scope
- A new series of standards will guide how robots connect with building infrastructure (like lifts, doors, alarms, and security systems).
- It covers data exchanges, operating procedures, and best practices to make sure robots can safely and reliably interact with infrastructure.
- Part 1: overall framework (all building systems).
- Part 2: focus on lifts and automatic doors.
- Future parts: will be developed based on market needs.
2. Proposal: ISO/NP 26159-2 – Robotics — Infrastructure for robot applications — Part 2: Requirements for interfacing with lifts (elevators) and automatic doorways
Comment period end date:17/10/2025
Scope
Create standards so robots, lifts, and automatic doors can work together.
Provide a common framework for system integrators and building owners.
Cover data exchange, safety, and emergency procedures.
Part 1: overall framework (lifts, doors, alarms, security, etc.).
Part 2: specific rules for lifts and automatic doors.
Purpose
Robots (like delivery, cleaning, and security robots) are growing fast in buildings.
Today, each company connects robots, lifts, and doors in its own way → expensive and not compatible.
Standards will make integration cheaper, safer, and easier.
Building owners will be able to use different robot types without being locked into one system.
