ECTA – the European grouping of Associations representing companies manufacturing cutting tools – held a data exchange, covering Germany, Spain, Switzerland and the UK, with limited information available for Italy. The totals for the first 4 of these suggest that the market fell by -8.4% in 2024 which more than reversed the growth of +7.7% that was recorded in 2023.
From the individual survey returns of the four countries for whom we have the full data, we have calculated a “total” for production, exports, imports and consumption – the latter is usually derived from the other three data series. The figures for tooling follow the pattern for the market shown above, with growth of +5.9% in 2023 followed by a fall of -2.5% in 2024 although, in this case, the decline in 2024 did not outweigh the previous year’s growth.
Most of the individual returns (again, excluding the one from Italy) also include top five listing for trading partners for both exports and imports.
You can get the summary and country data from the ECTA survey in the Members Area of the MTA website at https://www.mta.org.uk/members-area/market-intelligence/global-mt-report/ (it is currently the last item on this page).
