Comment period end date: 23/04/2025
Scope
This standard outlines guidelines for the design, performance, and user interaction of Head-Mounted Displays (HMDs), also known as eyewear displays. It focuses on key areas such as image clarity, heat management, and anti-slippage measures. The standard aligns with existing IEC standards and supplements them to address the growing use of HMDs in virtual, augmented, and mixed reality environments. It does not cover proprietary technologies or specific manufacturer products.
Purpose
The purpose is to address the challenges of HMDs’ use in various settings, particularly as their adoption increases. It aims to establish international standards that ensure ergonomic safety, health considerations, and consistent market practices. This standard will support the responsible development of HMDs, promoting innovation while safeguarding user health and facilitating interoperability across industries.
