Friday Brief Intro 07/10/2022
Good afternoon and welcome to this week’s Friday Brief! With the first FB of the month, we are excited for a busy October!
To start things off today I’d like to let you know that the MTA have expanded its training offer to all of its members. Find Danny’s details below to get in touch with him regarding what we have to offer.
Early this year, the Department for Education launched four new campaigns to support people to develop the skills needed to get good jobs and improve productivity at a local and national level. To continue this skills revolution and help people gain Skills for Life, the next burst of the four major campaigns has now launched. Check out the story below to read more details.
You may be eligible for MTA Apprenticeship Grant of up to £4,000 or a Training Grant of up to £750. We also offer an interest free apprenticeship loan to help you take on your apprentice. More details to be found below.
As you may already be aware, one of the services that we offer “Full” Members is free access to BSI standards through the British Standards Online (BSOL) system. We are working with BSI to provide some complimentary training on the 2nd November 2022 from 11:00 to 11:30 am to ensure that you are able to obtain the maximum value from this system. The training is designed to help you with points listed in the story below.
Ministerial responsibilities within BEIS have now been confirmed and the new Minister for Industry is Jackie Doyle-Price MP. You can find out more about Miss Doyle-Price in the story below.
The government has extended its support service for firms moving goods between Great Britain and Northern Ireland for an additional year, it announced yesterday (2 October). The Trader Support Service (TSS) was set up in 2020 to help traders comply with the new rules and customs obligations set out by the Northern Ireland Protocol. Since being launched on 1 January 2021, over 47,000 traders have registered to use the service, which includes a free-to-use IT portal for submitting customs. Take a look at the story by The Institute of Export & International Trade below.
Next up we have a few stories that were sent to us in the NCSC Small Organisations Newsletter. We have chosen a few stories for you, one titled ‘Cyber Incident Case Studies’ another on ‘NCSC Digital Loft: Cyber Security Toolkit for Board Members’ and the last on ‘NCSC launches package of support to help retailers protect themselves and their customers online’. Find out what’s included below.
HANNOVER MESSE brings together decision makers and industry experts from around the world. To take advantage of the early bird rate, go to the story below to register as an exhibitor.
Jack Semple, Secretary of EAMA, highlights a consultation launched at the end of last week on the future of the Government’s net-zero policy. With the new administration in charge, we have already seen a change in emphasis on issues like domestic oil and gas supplies and this will build upon that process.
Advanced Engineering 2022 is less than one month away, and you are invited to join us at this celebration of engineering innovation and collaboration! Register through the link in the story.
Our economic news this week is limited to our commentary on the Purchasing Managers Index data for September; this is not a great story with a majority of the 27 countries/regions that we cover in our report seeing a lower reading than in August. However, perhaps more significantly, only 9 of these had a PMI reading above 50 which would imply an expansion of activity in the manufacturing sector. Take a look at our report below which also includes a set of charts for you to download.
Finally, can we remind you that the September edition of the MTA Business Survey is underway; you can find the questionnaire at www.mta.org.uk/mta-business-survey-sep22 and we would be grateful if you can spare a couple of minutes to complete the survey which gives a valuable overview of the manufacturing technology sector in the UK. For EIA members, your latest quarterly survey is also running and you can find the form for that at https://www.mta.org.uk/EIA-survey%20Q3-22 and for AM-UK members the Autumn edition of the European Additive Manufacturing Survey is at https://www.mta.org.uk/AM-trend-survey-Autumn22.
We have now come to the end of this week’s Friday Brief! We hope you all have a great weekend and look forward to ‘seeing’ you again next week.
