Friday Brief 28/06/24 (W26)

Good afternoon and welcome to this week’s Friday Brief; your weekly roundup of news from the MTA.

A reminder to save the date for our AGM and Lunch on 28th November. This will be held in Westminster with the intention to hold a House of Commons Reception as part of the event with the government that will be formed next week. Further details will follow soon.

This week we have news of our new regular column focusing on legislation updates. We’re hoping these new updates will make the raft of information we receive more manageable for you to keep up-to-date as part of this key member benefit.

Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce has launched a new training course designed to help businesses understand what they need to do in preparation for Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) launching in the UK. MTA Cluster Members can access and exclusive discounted rate on this course- further details below.

We also have news that Croner, our HR and legal advice partner, is offering members a free documentation health check. You can find out how to use this offer below.

Our only economic news this week is the latest results from the CBI Industrial Trends Survey; this suggests that the improvement in output that we saw in the previous edition has been sustained but not improved upon, while orders is a mixed bag of a slower pace of decline for the total trend but a sharp fall in export business (implying a reasonable performance for domestic demand).

We also have some international reports to share with you this week. The new edition of the CECIMO Economic & Statistical Toolbox has been released – this mainly covers the 1st quarter of 2024, although some of the series are more recent than that. This report is based on 6 sections covering historical data for the sector, demand, investment, the business climate, general economic indicators and information on related sectors. You can also access this information between the data releases via the CECIMO Dashboard – more details of this in the article below.

The other data exchanges result from meetings of associations. We have the biannual CECIMO Statistical Report (machine tools) produced as part of their General Assembly meeting (we reported on the press release from this last week) and the annual Statistical Exchange from ECTA which covers the cutting tool part of our sector. Find out how to access these below.

That concludes the Friday Brief for this week. We will return next Friday with another weekly roundup but, until then, have a good weekend.
