Our UK Economic News article this week features the results of the latest CBI Industrial Trends Survey – despite their problems, the survey data continues to provide a valuable insight into the manufacturing sector in the UK.  The results were somewhat mixed – the outlook for output and orders remains fairly bleak with key industries for us reporting a fall in activity;  on the other hand, the investment intentions data remains relatively upbeat and while capacity utilisation has eased, it is still on the long-run average.  This article also looks at the latest update on productivity data for the UK by industry.

The European Economic news article covers the results of the European Commission’s Economic Sentiment Index which this time also has the quarterly capacity utilisation data as well as their bi-annual investment survey.  Again, the results are mixed with industry confidence falling sharply but capacity utilisation broadly neutral, although with a mixed picture by country; the investment survey points to a positive outlook for 2023.  Take a look at this article for more details.

That concludes the Friday Brief for this week! We hope you all enjoyed the newsletter and have a fantastic bank holiday weekend!
