Friday Brief (12/01/2024) W2

Welcome to this week’s Friday Brief! Last weekend saw 100 days until the open of MACH 2024 so for those of you exhibiting we hope plans are going well.

We start this week with a reminder of how you can support the Ared Forces community. The MTA are silver holders of the Corporate Covenant, having signed up in 2015, and you can find out what this means and how to sign up below.

MTA Member, NCMT are holding Okuma Genos Open days at the start of February. Find out what’s on show and how to register in this week’s story.

This week we have two BSI standards on Additive Manufacturing under review which you can comment on ISO/ASTM PWI 52954-1 – Additive manufacturing — Qualification principles — Part 1: Common failure modes used for risk mapping & ISO/ASTM PWI 52946 – Additive manufacturing of metals — Finished part properties — Stainless Steel Alloys made by powder bed fusion. Find out how you can comment below.

There are just a couple of items in this week’s economic news with our publishing schedule meaning that we will have to leave coverage of the November GDP and manufacturing output until next Friday. The European Commission’s Economic Sentiment Index saw another improvement in the December dated report, although the industry sector was noticeable for only being flat within the overall calculation. Alongside that, data from Eurostat showed a fall in both profitability and the investment ratio in the 3rd quarter. There is more detail on both of these announcements in the story below.

Finally, we still have a couple of surveys running for various parts of the MTA family. The form for the December edition of the MTA Business Survey can found at www.mta.org.uk/mta-business-survey-dec23 and the quarterly survey for EIA members is on the secure website at https://www.mta.org.uk/eia-quarterly-survey-4th-quarter-2023.

That’s all for this week. We wish you all a great weekend and will return next Friday!
