This week saw the output data for April in both the UK and EU with mixed outcomes;  the April figure fell for the UK but increased in the EU, although this is partly a reaction to the March figures which moved in the opposite direction in both cases.  Interestingly, despite the weakness in output overall in the UK, the capital goods sub-sector showed an improvement both here and in Europe.  This is largely driven by a recovery in the automotive industry which is running counter to the general trend thanks to order backlogs being worked through now that component supplies are improving.  We also take a look at the latest UK monthly GDP figure which continue to be affected by the relative levels of strikes from month to month.

We had hoped to complete the MTA Business Survey for April this week but it is now looking like early next week.  This means that there is still time for you to let us have your input via the online form at www.mta.org.uk/mta-business-survey-may23.  We hope you can find a few minutes to complete those which are relevant to you.

That concludes the Friday Brief For today! Thank you for keeping up to date with us and we hope yu have a wonderful sunny weekend!
