Friday Brief Intro (25/08/2023) (W34)

Good afternoon and welcome to this week’s Friday Brief! We hope you are all enjoying the summer break! This month has just flown by but let’s hope the weather stays dry so we can squeeze in a couple more barbeques!

To begin this week’s newsletter, we would like to introduce you to a company who have joined MTA Membership this week. Coplan Limited offer protective and tool control solutions to some of the world’s largest engineering and manufacturing organisations for tool and equipment storage, management and control. The government has this week announced a new timeline for when businesses need to be completing export declarations using the Customs Declaration Service (CDS). CDS is replacing the Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system and exporters had been due to have moved over to using it by 31 October 2023. Check out all the details below.

According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), in 2020/21 poor manual handling was the second-most common cause of work-related injuries, leading to 7.3 million working days being lost. If you’d like to chat about how Citation can help with the HR and Health & Safety side of your business fill in their call-back form, and they’ll get right back to you. Download their free guide through the link in the story.

The MTA have now launched their Annual General Meeting event taking place on the 15th November 2023. This year the meeting will be held at NIKKEN KOSAKUSHO EUROPE LIMITED’s facility in Rotherham. The event will be a little different this year as we would like it to be hosted in the afternoon with a drink’s reception afterwards. Take a look at the event posted on our website, you can find a link in the story below.

After last week’s bumper burst of economic news, there are just two items in our article this week.  The latest CBI Industrial Trends Survey paints a fairly gloomy picture with manufacturing output falling as 15 of the 17 sub-sectors declined compared to the previous month; orders also weakened but this is partly a reversal of a modest improvement in the previous survey and the overall level is not too bad.  The other news this week was the flash PMI data for the manufacturing sector where the UK and the handful of other countries which have a flash estimate mostly saw readings well below the crucial 50 level but with a mix of trends compared to the previous month; the exception to this is Japan where the index was stable and only just in negative territory. There are more details on both of these stories in the Economic News article below.

That concludes this week’s Friday Brief! We look forward to ‘seeing’ you again next week for some more great stories! Have a great weekend!
