Friday Brief Intro 17/02/2023

Good morning and welcome to this week’s Friday Brief! We hope you have all had a great week!

To kick things off today I would like to invite you to an online event by NPL. Hear from speakers who are working in the vehicle electrification field about some of the research they are doing to help with the development of vehicle electrification. Check out more details in the story.

The IOE are offering new digital trade courses to assist companies with the new documentation processes and digital identity. Gain insight into the future of trade digitalisation and how it can save your company money. Find links to their online webinars and more information on these course below.

We are aware of a number of emails being sent to our members and exhibitors purporting to have MACH and/or MTA lists for sale and stating they have our permission to circulate. Read more on the issue in the story so you can stay aware.

Our economic news item has been split into 2 parts again this week.  The UK section completes our round up of data for the 4th quarter of 2022 that was released last Friday with a look at the investment and trade data.  The former is disappointing in that the ONS has suspended publication of the data by industry, but their asset-type breakdown is showing a strong increase in spending on ICT & Other Machinery which suggests that the super-deduction policy has had a positive impact on the economy.  This section also includes the latest data on productivity.

Our European economic news section has the latest data on industrial production and the updated figures for GDP across the EU.  The latter shows a few countries are already in recession with a few more, including Germany and Italy, at risk of joining them when we get the Q1-23 data.  The final element of this section is a brief review of the interim update of the European Commission’s forecasts.

Finally, despite our best intentions to get the MTA Business Survey completed this week, we have not quite achieved that and the survey remains open for you input (with thanks to those who have already replied).  You can do this via the online form is at https://www.mta.org.uk/mta-business-survey-jan23 – we hope you can spare a couple of minutes to give us your feedback.

That concludes the Friday Brief for this week! We hope you all have a great weekend and look forward to ‘seeing’ you again next week!
